When some people picture retirement, they see it as the final stage of their lives. However, this just simply isn’t true! Retirement is the beginning of a brand new chapter in your life, and a time where you can truly relax, flourish and become your own person.
Having all the free time in the world will allow you to spend time doing the things that you have always wanted to do – you just need to make sure that you have created an adequate retirement plan first!
An experienced financial planner can help you to create a tailored and comprehensive retirement strategy to give you something to work towards.
It’s highly advisable to start this process as soon as you can – there really is no such thing as retirement planning too early!
According to a survey released by Roy Morgan, the age that most people begin to obtain financial advice for wealth management products is over 65 years old. Wealth management products include things like managed investments and superannuation.
A large majority (49.2 per cent) of those who actually seek financial advice are situated in this age bracket. Second to this is the 50-64 age group at 25.8 per cent.
While this shows that a large number of older Australians are seeking financial advice, it means that many of them are putting it off until the last minute.
This is not the best option, as it means that these people have a lesser amount of time to put their plans into action before actually reaching retirement.
“The use of financial planners, advisors or accountants increases with age, mostly as a result of the increased balances involved and the need for advice as retirement approaches,” said Roy Morgan Research industry communications director Norman Morris.
The research also showed that men were more likely to obtain financial advice about wealth management products than females.
“The lower use of financial planners by women aged up to 65 is partly as a result of women generally having lower balances than men and a comparatively lower level of understanding of how financial products work,” said Mr Morris.
In order to gain confidence that you will get the retirement lifestyle that you’ve always wanted you may want to consider seeking help from a qualified adviser. This will allow you to ensure peace of mind knowing that you’ve planned ahead for your future!
