the 2013-14 Federal Budget

When the Federal Government hands down its Budget on the second Tuesday in May each year, it’s worth understanding how its decisions may affect you. On the 14th of May 2013, Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan announced the Budget for 2013-14.

Highlights included:
  • Additional 0.5% Medicare levy to fund NDIS
  • New tax on superannuation pension earnings above $100,000
  • Refund of excess concessional super contributions extended
  • Higher concessional contributions cap of $35,000 for older Australians
  • Changes to Family Tax Benefit and Baby Bonus
  • Increase in income thresholds for Newstart Allowance
